SURPRISE VISIT FROM JUSTIN LONG AND DOSOMETHING.ORG!!!
November 29, 2011

Saying that November 29th was an unusual day at school would be a complete understatement. Here it is: on November 29th as I sat in Chapel at school, Justin Long and some awesome DoSomething.org people came to my school and surprised me in front of about 500 other people, telling me that I had been chosen to spend a day of social change with Justin Long! WHAT!?
So, DoSomething.org is this awesome website I found out about on TV; it's basically a site that offers tips and advice (through emails, site postings, and texts!) for teens on how to run their own community service projects and there are online forums to share your projects with other teens. I used DoSomething.org to design a community service project that I did last summer with Girl Scouts: I collected about 200 DVDs, games, CDs to donate to the pediatric floor at Memorial Sloan-Kettering... the kids loved them!!!
So... DoSomething.org decided to show up at my school because they were happy I used the site to do some community service. BEST surprise. Ever.
I spent the day with Justing Long (!!!!) giving out some Aeropostale jeans (DoSomething.org's Teens for Jeans campaign) at a shelter in downtown Brooklyn. It was very exciting... and very rewarding. My parents came, and also four cameramen, and some awesome DoSomething.org staff! (Naomi and Jenna!!!) It was amazing spending the day with Justin Long. He's incredibly funny (like, very very funny) and down-to-earth, and really made the day a lot of fun. People at school loved him. A lot.
So that was the surprise... I still laugh thinking that I got to sit next to him in a car ride and spent the day with him. Very very awesome experience!!!
Here's a video clip of the surprise at school!
ALEXANDRA FEATURED ON NICKELODEON!
Alexandra was featured in the Nickelodeon News documentary "The Face of Courage: Kids LIving with Cancer" January 24, 2010 at 8PM on the Nickelodeon Channel
Many of you might not know already, but Nickelodeon has a Nick News series of mini documentaries of kids, that premiere on Nickelodeon. The latest documentary "The Face of Courage: Kids Living with Cancer," chronicles the lives of six children living with cancer; I'm one of the kids featured!!! The whole experience was incredible - the filming! I had a Marty, Dan, Matt, and Hartley (director/cameraman; lighting man; sounds man; assistant) come to my house and film me all day doing an interview, doing homework, playing the clarinet ... everything :) The next day, I had my whole "crew" come to school with me and film me speaking to my class, eating lunch, etc. I loved being able to wear the wires and microphones under my clothes, and having my own entourage, or shall I say "paparazzi!"" ONE OF THE COOLEST EXPERIENCES EVER.
AIRED: SUNDAY, JAN. 24, 2010 AT 8PM ON THE NICKELODEON CHANNEL.
WATCH THE DOCUMENTARY ONLINE!
SPECTACULAR NEWS!!!
